Summary
Choose who can enroll learners on learning paths, how learners can access learning paths, and how they get credits and certificates. An admin can enable managers, and managers with instructor permissions, to enroll learners and groups on learning paths.
Learning paths are available to all customers.
Some features like forums are enabled by LearnUpon on request. Contact the support team to ask for these features.
See Learning paths: create a path, add courses, set progression and publish for an overview on learning paths.
The settings in this article are available from a learning path's Info page:
- From main navigation go to Courses.
- From secondary navigation select Learning Paths.
- Select your learning path.
The following screenshot shows a sample learning path Info page, with all features enabled.
Add a path description and images
From the learning path's Info page, select Details to add a description, and up to 3 images to represent the learning path.
The Description is searchable within LearnUpon, and appears to learners in their dashboard and the internal catalog. This text helps users find a learning path using search tools. If you use eCommerce, the description appears in your store.
See Add images for a course or learning path for instructions about images.
Sell learning paths
If you enabled eCommerce on your portal, you access Sales settings for your course from the Info page.
- From Sales Settings, select Path Sellable? to add the path to your store.
- For Pricing, enter a price for the learning path.
- Optional: From Further restrict access by Group?, enter group names to limit what group members can view the learning path in your store.
- Save to finish.
Add learning credits and certificates to a learning path
When credits are available on your portal, they appear as options in your learning path.
You can let learners collect credits for individual courses on their learning path, as well as for the completed path itself.
Prerequisites for learning path credits and certificates
To add credits to a learning path, you need the credit systems set up on your portal. See Associations: set up learning credits for members.
Add credits
- From the learning path's Info page, select Certs & Credits.
- In the credit fields, enter a value for the credit for the completed learning path.
- Optional: select Award any course-level credits as learners complete courses on their path?
- Save to finish.
The following screenshot shows an example of a learning path with 5.0 CPD credits, and credits awarded at course level.
Add certificates
To add certificates to a learning path, see Set up learning path certificates.
Offer learning badges
If you use gamification, you can link up to 5 badges to a learning path. You can award badges:
- for completion of a learning path
- for a certain score on a learning path
You can let learners collect badges for individual courses on their learning path, as well as for the completed path itself.
Prerequisites for learning path badges
To add badges to a learning path, you need the gamification set up on your portal. See Gamification overview: plan levels and badges to start planning levels and badges.
Add learning badges
- From your learning path Info page, select Learning Badges.
- Select Add Learning Badge.
- From Badge awarded, enter text to access the dropdown list of existing learning badges in your portal.
- Select one of:
- Achieved by score: this score can be different from the scores required to pass individual courses
- Achieved on completion
- Save to finish.
Optionally: select Award any course-level learning badges as learners complete courses on their path?
Allow managers to enroll groups and users on learning paths
By default, admins can enroll learners and groups onto learning paths without restrictions.
An admin can enable managers, and managers with instructor permissions, to enroll learners and groups on learning paths.
Note: the learning path permissions overrides the course-level permissions for enrolling users.
If a learning path includes courses which do not allow managers to enroll users, the learning path permission to enroll overrides the limits of the courses. See Courses: Additional Settings to manage learners' access to a course for background about course-level permissions.
- From your learning path Info page, select Additional Settings.
- Select Manager can enroll learners?
-
Optionally:
- for Difficulty select an option to describe the learning path
- in Path Length enter a figure, and select a Length unit of Minutes or Hours
- Save to finish.
The following screenshot shows a learning path Additional Settings page, with Manager can enroll learners? selected.
Add to the internal catalog
The internal catalog (catalogue) lets users view learning paths and enroll themselves for self-directed learning. Choose which learning paths to display on the catalog, and which groups can see them.
This procedure has 2 parts:
- from Settings, enable the catalog
- from the learning path Info > Catalog, choose the learning paths to offer through the catalog
See Add courses and learning paths to your catalog for instructions.
Set due dates for a learning path
A due date sets an advisory date for a user to complete a course. After the due date passes, users can still access the course.
For learning paths, you can set up 1 or 2 automated emails to remind users to complete a learning path.
- From your learning path Info page, select Due Dates.
-
In Due Dates enter one of:
- a number of days after enrollment
- a fixed date using the calendar picker
-
Optionally for automated email reminders:
- select Send/Enable due date reminders?
- enter a number of days before due date for 1 or 2 reminders
- Save to finish.
The following screenshot shows a sample Due Dates using a number of days after enrollment, and with email reminders enabled.
Note: the due dates for learning paths don't override the valid periods, aka expiry dates, for the courses on the path. Make sure the learning path dates are compatible with the dates the courses are available.
Example: a learning path due date is 60 days away, and a course on the path has a valid period of 30 days. After the course valid period ends, you can't launch the course at all, even though the learning path is still within its due date.
See Manage course due dates and valid periods for details about course valid periods.
Set up a forum
Set up forums to facilitate discussion and help drive engagement from your learners by allowing them to collaborate within LearnUpon.
See Forums overview: topics, permissions and moderators for background.
You need to enable forums for the whole portal, before setting up a forum for a learning path. See Enable forums for your portal, and add topics.
