eCommerce platform: set up courses and bundles for sale

Set courses and bundles as Sellable as you create them in the portal

When you set courses and bundles as Sellable, the products appear immediately in the eCommerce platform in Draft status. 

Availability: depends on your LearnUpon plan

Ask your Customer Success Manager to add the new eCommerce features to your portal. You set up each portal in your realm separately.

You complete course and bundle pricing and settings in the eCommerce platform. 

Offer course bundles

Course bundles are packages of 2 or more courses sold together as a single line item. Bundles let you offer volume discounts, for learners who buy multiple courses at once. 

Bundles are distinct from learning journeys, where you create a group of courses to take together in a given sequence.

Bundles are also different from bulk purchases, where one person buys multiple seats for courses to share across a team or organization.

In LearnUpon, bundles are containers for courses. You create the container, add published courses to it, then sell the container and its contents as a single line item. 

Once you turn on bundles for your portal, they appear alongside Courses and Learning Paths.

Offer free courses

You can offer free courses by setting their prices at 0 in all currencies, and making them Active in the eCommerce platform. 

Learners see a course marked Free, and can select and enroll immediately from the checkout page.

Prerequisites

  • Spree eCommerce platform set up and active
  • published courses ready to sell

Access permissions

eCommerce platform access

  • admins with full portal permissions: can set up and add courses and bundles to your Spree eCommerce platform

Courses access

  • all admins: can create bundles, and add them to eCommerce
  • instructors with permissions, and managers with instructor permissions: can create and publish courses, and make them sellable

Make courses sellable

  1. From main navigation go to Courses > my course name.
  2. Select Sales.
  3. From eCommerce platform select Course is sellable?
  4. Save.
  5. Optional: select View on eCommerce to open Products > my course name immediately on the eCommerce platform, to set pricing and finish settings.

Set up bundles to sell through the eCommerce platform

Make bundles available for the portal

  1. From the main navigation go to Settings > eCommerce > General Settings. 
  2. From General Settings, select Enable Course Bundles.
  3. Save to finish.

Create a course bundle

Create the bundle first, as a container to hold courses, for sale together.

  1. From main navigation go to Courses. 
  2. From secondary navigation select Bundles.
  3. From Actions, select Create New Bundle.
  4. Enter a Bundle Name.
  5. Optionally, add:
    • Keywords separated by commas, to help buyers find the bundle
    • a Bundle Description to appear in the store
    • up to 3 Bundle Images to appear on your bundle's description page
    • 1 image Set as thumbnail to appear on learners' Home and Catalog

The bundle appears in Draft status on the Bundles page.

Add courses to the bundle

From main navigation go to Courses, then select Bundles from secondary navigation. 

  1. From main navigation go to Courses. 
  2. From secondary navigation select Bundles > your bundle name.
  3. From the bundle's secondary navigation select Courses.
  4. From Actions, select Add course. In the dialog window, enter search terms to find courses, and select them from the drop-down menu.
  5. When the list of courses is complete, select Add.

The Courses tab shows you the courses in this bundle, including their status and version.

Drag the courses to rearrange their order. Select x Remove to delete the course from the bundle.

Make a bundle sellable

  1. From main navigation go to Courses. 
  2. From secondary navigation select Bundles > your bundle name.
  3. From the bundle's secondary navigation select Sales.
  4. From eCommerce platform select Bundle Sellable?
  5. Save to finish.
  6. Optional: select View on eCommerce to open Products > my bundle name immediately on the eCommerce platform, to set pricing and finish settings.

View and price courses and bundles in the eCommerce platform

Setting prices includes offering courses for free.

  1. From main navigation select Go to eCommerce.
  2. Select Products to view the courses and bundles in your list of sellable items.
  3. Optional: use Filters to identify the products in Draft status, or by Created at date.
  4. Select each product to review and set:
    • Name, Description, Media
    • Pricing in selected currencies. For free courses, set prices at 0 for all currencies
    • Membership pricing in selected currencies. For free courses set prices at 0 for all membership types
  5. Optional: set Available On and Discontinue On as required.
  6. When each product is ready for sale, set its status to Active.
  7. Select Update to finish.

Confirm the courses and bundles are in your store

  1. Open a test learner account in a new browser window.
  2. From the learner main navigation go to the store, and view the products.
  3. Make sure all the product details appear as expected.
