Sell access to your training content with recurring payments
Subscriptions let you sell access to your courses, bundles, and learning journeys with recurring billing, instead of selling each item one at a time.
Availability: depends on your LearnUpon plan
Contact your Customer Success Manager if you don’t see Subscription plans in your eCommerce admin navigation.
Subscriptions: overview
Offering subscriptions means you can:
- sell one or more plans, each with its own products, pricing, and currencies
- bill on a recurring basis. Offer monthly or annual fees, or both, with optional free trials
- display plans on your storefront through a dedicated Subscriptions page and a configurable storefront section
- provide immediate 1-click enrollment into everything in their plan. When you add more content after they subscribe, the content is available to your subscribers immediately
- let buyers manage their own payments and cancellations
- optionally: sell plans as bulk purchases. Buyers can assign and re-assign seats as required
See eCommerce platform: make a bulk purchase as a buyer
Working with subscriptions
Set up 1 or more subscription plans, such as Basic or All Access. Each plan requires its own prices, products, and optional trial period.
For a trial period, you can set a number of days to allow free access to training content.
To access a trial, buyers complete a purchasing workflow with their payment details. LearnUpon does not charge them until the trial period is finished. Buyers can cancel without cost during this period.
Currently billing is available through Stripe only.
When buyers subscribe, they get 1-click access to all their plan content. Their access updates automatically any time you add or remove content from the plan.
When buyers cancel their subscription, they lose access to their learning content at the end of their current billing period, though can still log in to the portal.
LearnUpon retains their enrollments and any In Progress training, so the buyer can pick up their training again when they re-subscribe.
Managing subscriptions
A buyer can cancel their own subscription through the Manage subscription option, and set the subscription to cancel. The cancellation takes effect at the end of their current billing period.
Alternately, buyers can contact their portal admin to cancel their subscription immediately.
Setup steps
Create the plan, and add the content
Subscription plan setup includes:
- General settings - name, description, look and feel
- Configuration and gateway - how buyers access your plan and pay for it
- Pricing - you provide pricing for each currency . When you leave a currency without pricing, the plan is not available in that currency
After you save the plan and all its details, you add the content: the courses, learning journeys and bundles you include in the plan.
You can save your subscription plan as a Draft and return to finish it as required. When you are ready to add plans to the storefront, set to Active. Setting the plan to Archive to stops new sales of the plan. Paid subscribers retain access until their subscription ends.
Add subscription plans to your storefront
Set up a subscription plan section in your theme. You can add the section to your storefront where you need it. For example, include it on both the homepage and on a pricing page.
Test the buyer workflow
LearnUpon strongly recommends you try out the buyer’s process to confirm your buyers can complete payments and access content as expected.
