Define skills required by your organization. Link them to courses and learning journeys, indicate proficiency levels that come from training, and build the depth of skills gained by your learners.
Availability: depends on your LearnUpon plan
Ask your Customer Success Manager or the support team to turn on the skills feature for your portal.
Once available, an admin needs to set up the feature for each top-level and sub-portal, as required.
Skills: overview
The skills feature helps you:
- create and manage a complete list of skills in your organization
- link those skills to job titles within your organization
- link skills to courses and learning journeys in your portal
- report on skills within your organization
The following screenshot shows Skills in an admin's main navigation and its main page.
Admins can set up and manage a skills framework, including:
- adding skills relevant to your organization, manually or by batch upload
- map skills to job titles and courses
- let learners track their skills and career progression
Learners can:
- view their skills through My Profile > Skills
- manually add skills
- acquire skills automatically when they complete courses and learning journeys
Skills: admin view and features
Skills appear in the admin main navigation. The main Skills page displays:
- Skills names
- the number of Job titles connected to the skill
- the number of Learners who have the skill in their profiles
- the number of Courses and Learning journeys connected to the skill
- the date the skill description was last edited
- a search option and sort option, to help view large volumes of skills
From this page you can also start the following processes:
- Create skill - to create a skill and description manually
- Batch import - to upload skills to your portal
- View job titles - the Job title field created in custom user data

Prerequisites
Tip: for best results, organizations need to define and agree on their skills framework and verification methods internally, before starting to add skills in LearnUpon.
To make the most of the skills feature:
- associate Job titles with skills: this option requires a custom user data field called Job title with titles provided for your organization
- review the proficiency levels for skills expected in your organization. You can accept the default proficiency scales provided, or define each level manually with terms applicable to your organization
