Verify skills, and let learners declare their own skill levels
Add a means to confirm skills: by a course completion, or by an admin or a manager assigning the skills.
Availability: depends on your LearnUpon plan
Recognize skill improvements by learners
LearnUpon offers options to verify the skill levels you define and associate with learners and with course completions. In this context, the portal is recording the proof that learners hold skills by one or more methods. You can choose one or more of the following methods:
- an admin assigns the skill to learners
- (optional) the learners' group manager assigns the skill to learners
- learners complete a course associated with the skill
- learners complete a course with a scorable module associated with the skill
The first 2 options require manual steps for admins or managers.
The second 2 options help automate your processes: when your courses are associated with skills, learners can gain verified skills by completing the courses.
These options are available in your portal Settings.
When you turn on skills verification, the verification options apply to the whole portal.

Tip: for best results, organizations need to define and agree on their skills framework and verification methods internally, before starting to add skills in LearnUpon.
Let learners record their own skills
Your organization can let learners look up and add skills they possess from the list of skills for the portal, and list them as part of their user profile. LearnUpon records the date that the skill goes into the learners' profile.
Self-declaration is optional. Admins can disable the ability for learners to self declare within Settings.
Let managers assign skills and proficiency levels to learners
Your organization can let group managers assign skills, and the proficiency levels for a skill, to learners. Manager assignment becomes one of the ways to verify that learners hold the skills. This verification date goes into the learners' profile.
Manager assignment is optional. By default, permission to verify skills is by admins only.
The following screenshot shows the Skills page for Agile management. Three learners hold the skill at different Proficiency levels.
The highlighted Attainment method column shows the dates when the skill was recorded for each learners and the method: Admin recorded, Self-declared, Course completed.
In this example, 2 of the 3 methods are Verified.
