Use bulk actions to update course content quickly
This bulk process lets you make changes to modules, and swap them into existing courses, typically without creating new versions of the courses.
This feature extends LearnUpon’s existing Replace content feature to bulk actions.
When the modules are in use in courses, aka you have courses with enrolled learners at Not Started or In Progress status, you can decide if learners can retain their progress on the course (default), or need to start the course over. This decision applies to all the modules in the batch.
See Replace a SCORM or Tin Can (xAPI) module in a course.
The Library > SCORMs and Tin Cans interface shows a searchable list of module titles and indicates how many courses use that module. You can sort the list by newest, oldest, A-Z or Z-A.
The following screenshot shows the list interface in a sample portal. In this sample the modules are sorted with oldest module titles first.
Steps in the Batch replace process:
- you upload up to 100 ZIP packages or up to 2.5 GB of files. After you select the files, you can’t add in any more for a given batch process
- the application matches the files by filename to existing files in use in LearnUpon. When you have more than 1 copy of a module in use in LearnUpon, you can choose how many of the copies to update
- for courses with enrolled learners, you can decide if learners can retain their progress on the course, or need to start the course over
- you confirm the matches, and LearnUpon updates the library with new versions
You can follow the batch replace process through the Portal action tracker.
Tip: To retain learners' progress on some active courses but not others, plan your batch replace in 2+ batches. Upload the “must restart the course” modules separately from the “no restart required” modules.
Prerequisites
To replace the SCORM and xAPI modules in use, your module filenames must match exactly between the modules in use, and the revised modules.
You can replace “like for like” only: replace SCORM with SCORM modules, and replace xAPI with xAPI modules.
This process replaces existing content in the portal only. To add new content, use Add files.

Upload and change multiple SCORM and Tin Can modules at once
- From main navigation go to Library.
- From secondary navigation go to SCORMS and Tin Cans to view a list of module titles.
- Select Batch replace files to open Batch replace SCORM or Tin Can files dialog.
- Use Choose files to open your device’s default file storage.
- Select as many ZIP packages as required, up to a max of 100 packages or 2.5 GB, to upload.
- LearnUpon matches the uploaded filenames to the filenames in the library:
- if there are no matches, LearnUpon displays an error
- for multiple matches, choose which files you want to replace
- select Remove to take a matched file off the replacement list - this step removes the uploaded file from the batch process, and leaves your current module unchanged
The following screenshot shows the Uploading matched SCORM or Tin Can files dialog, where 2 files matched existing modules in the library and 2 files had no matches in the library.
- For the matched modules in courses, select one of:
- Retain learner progress on courses that contain replaced files (default)
- Do not retain learner progress
- Select Start replacement.
LearnUpon shows a progress bar for the upload, with a “do not move from this page” message.
When the initial upload is complete, LearnUpon continues the file replacement steps in the background, and you can move to a different page in the portal.
The following screenshot shows the SCORMs and Tin Cans interface when the file replacement process is running in the background. Selecting Track progress takes you to the Portal action tracker.
