Lia indexes your content
When you turn on Lia for your portal, the AI scans and indexes the contents of your catalog so it can provide customized recommendations to learners. Depending on the size of your catalog, this process can take some time. The scanning and indexing process appears in the portal action tracker.
The indexing process includes text from course titles, descriptions, and course content.
Lia indexes cataloged content only. You can keep courses unindexed by Lia either through group restrictions in the catalog, or by not adding content to the catalog.
Lia recommends courses to learners through chat
Ask Lia is an AI assistant for content discovery to help your learners find the courses they need. Learners can type in any question in the chat, and get personalized recommendations for cataloged courses, based on its index.
LearnUpon uses feedback to make Lia work better
LearnUpon AI-assisted features (“Lia”) rely on generative AI and large language models (LLMs) built using enterprise-grade technology from leading, trusted, innovative partners such as AWS.
Lia includes a feedback option. Learners can rate their results, to help developers improve the output of the language model and return better suggestions over time.
Amazon Bedrock does not store or use your data to train models, nor does it share it with third-party model providers. Your data remains private and is processed within AWS's secure infrastructure, which is secured with encryption and access controls.
Prerequisites
After your Customer Success Manager or the Support team add the feature available to the portal, an admin must turn it on, and must agree to the LearnUpon Supplemental Services Terms and Conditions.
To use Lia your portal requires:
- the most current interface features for learners, including the most recent catalog update, and the most recent course experience.
- published courses in the catalog. The bigger the catalog, the more options Lia provides to learners

LearnUpon’s AI features are governed by the terms available at Supplemental Services Terms and Conditions
By accessing or using these features, you acknowledge that you have the authority to bind the Customer and agree, on behalf of the Customer, to be bound by those terms. If a separate written agreement has been executed between the parties, that agreement will take precedence.
Access permissions
- admins with full permissions: can turn on Lia for the portal
This feature is available for top-level and sub-portals. You set up the feature on each portal separately.
For multiple portals, an admin must accept the terms and conditions at the top-level portal before Lia becomes available for sub-portals.
After initial setup, you can limit the feature to sub-portals only and turn off the feature at the top level as required.
Set up Lia on a portal
- From a top-level portal main navigation go to Settings > My portal > AI settings.
- From AI settings, select Allow Lia.
- From the dialog that opens select Review terms and conditions to confirm, and select Proceed.
To track the progress of the scan and index by Lia, select the portal action tracker from top navigation. The following screenshot shows the Portal action tracker with the action AI content ingestion marked Completed.
Confirm availability
From your user profile (initials or avatar) select Switch to learner.
The Lia icon appears in a corner of each learner page, except eCommerce.

Select the icon to open a chat window.
