LearnUpon values your feedback and is dedicated to continuously implementing new features to further improve the LMS. For your reference, more detailed information on all the newest features we released, can be found in the LearnUpon Knowledge Base.
Topics covered in this article:
Cleaner, faster, smoother: Improvements to video playback
Now you can make watching your uploaded videos in LearnUpon a frictionless experience, even for learners with unreliable internet connections.
You have uploaded a top-quality video but, a slow internet connection means some of your learners have to wait for the video to load up, and fall behind. This is becoming more common with the increase in the number of people working from home, and those accessing courses on mobile devices.
We have changed the way video content encodes and plays back on the platform using an adaptive bitrate process supported by HLS.
What does this mean? When you upload a new video to LearnUpon, the video upload will default to HLS. When a learner presses play, the video and audio quality will automatically adjust to match their internet connection with two new bitrates; low quality for slow speed and high quality for fast speed. As the video plays back, the quality will continue to adjust to the learner’s internet connection, selecting either the low or the high bitrate, depending on their internet speed.
As an added bonus, when there is enough width, the new video player eliminates the black bars seen on the old player.
Improving platform performance
Even faster platform performance; changing the way our platform handles Course Counter Stats
Performance is a project that's never finished at LearnUpon. To enable more accurate and timely Instructor Course Counter Stats, updates are now processed in the background at 15min intervals instead of when changes are made.
Once an Instructor is assigned to a course, they will have immediate access to the course and its details. The Instructor Course Counter Stats will be updated automatically at the next allocated time.
This approach will be rolled out to Course Counter Stats and Manager Counter Stats in the coming months.
Disable Group Managers from receiving enrollment request emails
A course creator can now disable enrollment request notification emails to Group Managers, for courses available in the Catalog. This option gives the Group Managers greater control over when they approve enrollment requests. Note they will still see requests in their portal, but won’t get a notification email with each request.
Allow Instructors to reset exam attempts
All Instructor user types, and Managers with Instructor permissions, now have the ability to reset the number of exam attempts within a course that they either own or are the instructor on. This permission used to be restricted to Admin user types.
Process course unenrollments via the API
Using the API, unenrollments can now be processed while performing group sync via an additional parameter. This was previously only possible using the batch user import feature provided in the UI.
v1.12 Salesforce - create logs using system mode
With the Salesforce Summer ‘20 release, a change to the permission levels of Guest User profiles has been enforced. To ensure we support automated calls from this user profile, we have launched v1.12 of the LearnUpon for Salesforce integration. This version allows you to enable “Run in System Mode” to override Guest User profile permissions and create API call logs using “Without Sharing ”.
