Working with coupon expiry dates
For coupons with expiry dates:
- a coupon expires at the start of the expiry date, rather than the end. For example: a coupon with Expiry date of 31 December expires at 00:01 on 31 December, rather than 23:59 on 31 December
- the coupon is valid according to the date and time zone of the account that created it
When you create a coupon, it takes its date and time reference from your account, the time zone you use. As a result, the coupon expires in the first minute of the date specified, in the time zone you use.
To create coupons for use across a number of time zones, like across Europe or across the continental US, look carefully at your time zone, and consider when you want it to expire for its users.
Tip: to make a coupon valid up to and including a specific date like 31 December, set the coupon to expire on 1 January.

Portal-wide coupons are coupons that learners can apply to any course purchase, or on multiple courses, within one portal.
- From main navigation, select Settings > E-Commerce Setting > Portal Coupons.
- From the Action menu > Create Coupon.
-
Enter your coupon options:
- Coupon Enabled: turns coupon on or off. You can create coupons in advance, to turn on at a later date

- Apply to: limit how customers can use your coupon - apply to whole cart, the cheapest item in cart, or most expensive item in cart
- Only apply if cart contains: set a minimum number of items to buy, before applying the discount. For example, user this field together with Apply to, to create a “buy 2 courses to get a 3rd half-price” coupon
- Save to finish.

Portal coupons appear as a searchable list in Settings > eCommerce.
Coupons and bulk purchases
When someone makes a bulk purchase of courses with a coupon of any kind, LearnUpon treats the bulk purchase as a single item.
Example:
- a customer buys 10 courses through the Bulk Purchase option in the online store
- at checkout, they enter a course coupon for 25% off
- since LearnUpon treats the 10 courses as a single purchase, the buyer gets 25% off all the courses
See eCommerce: allow bulk purchase of courses.
To offer discounts on bulk purchases:
- tailor coupon codes for bulk buyers. Set up coupons that offer a fixed currency discount rather than a percentage
- for a portal coupon, set Only apply if cart contains to a minimum number of items to buy, so the coupon doesn’t apply to a single bulk purchase
Coupons and new versions of courses
Course and learning path coupons are linked to the version of the course or path available, when you created the coupon. You can't re-use coupons from an existing course in a new version of the same course, or re-use coupon codes from a deleted course.
To keep your coupons valid for re-versioned courses, edit the coupon and enter a new code, or append new characters to the code, so LearnUpon treats the coupon as new.
